Google has updated its digital assistant Gemini to include a song recognition feature, similar to the one offered by Google Assistant. This update allows users to ask Gemini for the name of the song playing in the background on Android devices. The response will be provided through the Google app’s “Song Search” feature.
To use this new feature, users simply need to ask Gemini “What song is playing?” or “Name a song I can hear now.” Gemini will then display a multi-colored oscillating sphere and provide the name of the song, artist, an option to view lyrics, and sometimes a video. This update brings Gemini closer to matching the capabilities of Google Assistant, which has been phased out on Android phones.
However, it’s worth noting that this feature is not available on iOS devices, where Gemini is still limited to text-based responses only. Nevertheless, users who currently rely on Gemini for music recognition may find this update a welcome improvement.
