Geminid Meteor Shower Brings ‘Beast’ of Nightly Showers

A spectacular meteor shower is illuminating the night sky as the Gemini constellation reaches its peak on December 13-14. The Geminids, traveling at over 78,000 miles per hour, are expected to produce up to 120 colorful shooting stars per hour.

According to NASA, the Geminids are the star of the show for December and can be observed in the constellation Gemini. “All you have to do is kick back, relax, take your time, and you’re gonna look toward the constellation Gemini,” said Kat Troche, a NASA solar system ambassador.

The meteor shower is happening amidst other global news, including protests in South Korea over President Yoon Suk Yeol’s surprise declaration of martial law. In the US, Democrats made gains in the House, flipping seats in California and narrowing the Republican majority. Meanwhile, an event at Deutsches Haus will explore the connections between “psychoanalysis as political theory” and student protests.
