Gen Z Couples More Likely to Sign Prenups Before Marriage

Gen Z couples are bucking the trend of signing prenuptial agreements before marriage. However, a significant number of them do sign such agreements, with 41% of Gen Z engaged or married saying they have signed one.

The reason for this shift is due to the increased importance of financial transparency in marriage. Prenups force couples to discuss their finances before marriage, which can be beneficial in preventing future conflicts.

According to matrimony attorney Ken Jewell, Gen Z couples are more likely to sign prenups because they want to know exactly what they’re getting into. They’re aware that their partner’s financial situation may not be as transparent as it seems.

Wealthy parents also play a significant role in pushing Gen Z couples to sign prenups. They may do so due to past divorce experiences or to protect their wealth for future generations.

Celebrities like Taylor Swift and Brooklyn Beckham are prime examples of this trend. Both signed elaborate prenuptial agreements before getting married to protect their assets.

On the other hand, some celebrity couples, such as Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber, did not sign prenups when they got married. However, their wealth gap has narrowed since then, and if they were to get a post-nuptial agreement, their income during marriage would become marital property.

Overall, Gen Z couples are becoming more aware of the importance of financial transparency in marriage, leading them to sign prenups before getting hitched.
