Two-time Oscar-winner Gene Hackman has left his entire fortune to his late wife Betsy Arakawa, according to his will. However, there’s a twist: he didn’t leave anything for their three children. The reason? A provision in the will states that if the couple dies within 90 days of each other, the assets would go to charity instead.
The estate is worth millions, and as New Mexico is a community property state, Betsy’s share could be substantial. However, Hackman’s children may still inherit his share due to their direct living status.
Hackman had previously discussed his difficult relationship with his children, citing a lack of involvement during Chris’ formative years. His son has reportedly hired an attorney to challenge the will, sparking concerns about the distribution of the estate.
A preliminary injunction has been filed by Julia Peters, representing Hackman and Arakawa’s estate, seeking to prevent authorities from releasing sensitive information, including footage of the death scene.
