Gene Hackman, the legendary actor, died under mysterious circumstances. His autopsy report shows he hadn’t eaten for an extended period before his death in February. The findings indicate a history of heart failure and chronic kidney issues, as well as signs of Alzheimer’s disease.
The toxicology test revealed acetone levels consistent with prolonged fasting, a condition that can be caused by diabetes or fasting-induced ketoacidosis. The report also noted “neurodegenerative features” consistent with the advanced stage of Alzheimer’s disease.
Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare and deadly virus transmitted through contact with infected rodents. Hackman tested negative for the virus.
The discovery of their partially mummified bodies in separate rooms of their cluttered home on February 25 revealed that Hackman may have unknowingly lived with his wife’s dead body for days due to his mental state. The couple was aged 95 and 65, respectively.
