Gene Hackman’s Wife Betsy Arakawa Found Dead in Santa Fe Home

Gene Hackman, the Oscar-winning actor, and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home along with a deceased dog. The couple was 95 and 65 years old, respectively.

Arakawa’s mother, Yoshie Feaster, who lives in Hawaii, had not spoken to her daughter since October due to the lack of phone calls. Feaster’s housekeeper, Keiko, revealed that Arakawa usually called her every one or two months but stopped after October. Keiko expressed concern over the disappearance and reported to authorities.

Authorities found Hackman’s body first, followed by his wife’s and their dog’s remains. The Santa Fe Sheriff’s office stated that Hackman likely died nine days before maintenance workers discovered him. A pacemaker recorded his last “event” on February 17, which suggests it was a significant health issue leading to his death.

The couple tested negative for carbon monoxide poisoning, but the cause of their deaths remains unknown pending further investigation. The police are still piecing together the events surrounding their deaths and will review cellphone data, phone calls, texts, photos, and other information.

Friends of the family described Hackman’s relationship with Arakawa as a “true love affair” and expressed shock at the news. An official statement from Hackman’s daughter and granddaughter confirmed his passing, stating that he was “loved and admired by millions around the world.”
