Gene Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, had called a medical concierge service two weeks before her body was found dead alongside her husband at their Santa Fe home. The calls were made to Cloudberry Health on February 12, just one day after authorities reported her last known activity was on February 11.
According to cellphone records, Arakawa made three calls that morning and missed an incoming call in the afternoon. It is unclear what she was calling about or who she spoke with.
Arakawa had brought their dog, Zinna, back from a veterinary hospital on February 9 after a procedure, but the dog likely died of starvation and dehydration. Autopsies showed Arakawa died of hantavirus, a rare respiratory illness spread mainly by rodents, while Hackman’s cause of death was reported as heart disease due to advanced Alzheimer’s.
An investigation into how Arakawa contracted hantavirus remains ongoing.
