George Clooney has expressed his optimism about the future of the United States, despite criticism from Broadway legend Patti LuPone. In an interview for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, Clooney shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump and the current state of politics.
Clooney described Trump as a “New York beast” who has been known to women for 30 years. Despite this, he remains confident that the US will “get through it.” LuPone, however, admitted to having a more pessimistic outlook, stating she feels like the country is stuck and struggles to find its better angels.
Clooney disagrees, saying he’s an optimist who believes people will eventually find their way again. He also expressed hope for Democratic victories in the midterm election, particularly for new leadership that can bring a sense of humor and purpose. Clooney cited Maryland Governor Wes Moore as a promising candidate, describing him as “a real force” in the next election.
