George R.R. Martin Announces Animated Adaptation Amid Winds of Winter Frustrations

George R.R. Martin has fired back at fans frustrated with his progress on The Winds of Winter, announcing a new animated film adaptation of his friend Howard Waldrop’s book A Dozen Tough Jobs. The author took to his blog to defend his work and express his disappointment in the intense focus on the penultimate book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

Martin listed the many complaints he’s received about Winds over the years, including fans’ impatience and their perception that they “don’t care” about other books. He emphasized that while other projects have taken up his time, he remains invested in the franchise and is excited about adapting Waldrop’s work.

Despite completing hundreds of pages of Wind’s content during the COVID-19 lockdown, Martin has struggled to meet fan expectations. The author acknowledged that Winds is 13 years late, but insisted on continuing work on it.

Martin also took a moment to poke fun at his own situation, jokingly comparing himself to a direwolf and referencing the “curse of my life.” He plans to adapt Waldrop’s A Dozen Tough Jobs into an animated film, which he hopes will bring excitement to fans.
