Comedian and actor George Wendt, best known for his role as Norm Peterson on the beloved NBC sitcom “Cheers,” has passed away at the age of 76. According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Wendt’s cause of death was cardiac arrest due to congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, and hypertension.
Wendt died peacefully in his sleep on May 20. In a statement shared with Fox News Digital, a family representative described him as “a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant” who will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
During his career, Wendt earned six consecutive Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Norm Peterson in all 275 episodes of “Cheers.” His iconic role became synonymous with the show’s success, which took home 28 Emmy Awards during its 11-season run on NBC.
