Geraldo Perdomo Signs $45 Million Extension with Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks have locked up shortstop Geraldo Perdomo to a four-year, $45 million contract extension through the 2030 season. The deal includes a club option for 2030 and starts in 2026. Perdomo will receive a signing bonus of $5 million this year, increasing his salary to $7.55 million, with raises of $8 million, $11 million, and $13 million over the next three seasons.

Perdomo’s performance has been impressive despite his rookie season being marred by injuries, hitting .273 with low strikeout totals in 98 games last year. The 25-year-old shortstop excels at plate discipline, ranking 46th among players with a walk rate of 11%. He will be the cornerstone of Arizona’s core alongside Corbin Carroll and Corbin Burnes.

The move comes as a surprise, given that Jordan Lawlar is also playing shortstop for the Diamondbacks. Perdomo, who hit .235 with 125 RBIs in 401 games over his career, has excellent bat-to-ball skills despite not being a power threat. The extension keeps him under club control through 2030 and solidifies Arizona’s strong core.

With this move, the Diamondbacks have secured their second-best team in the National League West division behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. Several players with at least four more years of club control remain, including Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Josh Naylor, Eugenio Suarez, and Jordan Montgomery.
