Gérard Depardieu Faces Trial Over Sexual Assault Allegations

French actor Gérard Depardieu has arrived at a Paris court to face trial over two separate sexual assault allegations. The trial, scheduled for March 25-26, centers around accusations by set decorator Amélie and assistant director Sarah, who claim they were assaulted by Depardieu on the set of Jean Becker’s “The Green Shutters” in 2021.

Depardieu has denied all allegations, including mounting complaints dating back to 2018. The trial marks the first time he is facing official charges of sexual assault.

Amélie recounts that Depardieu allegedly grabbed her “brutally,” locked her in place, and made physical contact, while Sarah describes similar incidents involving Depardieu’s aggressive behavior on set.

Actress Charlotte Arnould also faces an ongoing case of two acts of rape dating back to 2018, which is still making its way through the courts.

Depardieu has published a letter denying the allegations, suggesting they have been misinterpreted. However, his reputation as one of France’s most celebrated actors has been irreparably damaged by these accusations.

Feminist protests and media scrutiny surround Depardieu’s expected appearance in court, with some 50 women gathered outside the courthouse holding banners in support of the two plaintiffs.
