Gérard Depardieu’s Trial Resumes Amid Accusations of Sexual Assault

French actor Gérard Depardieu is set to face the music on Monday in a trial resuming after a five-month delay due to his poor health. The 76-year-old faces charges of allegedly assaulting two women on the set of “Les Volets Verts” in 2021.

Depardieu denies all allegations, with his lawyer stating that the actor “categorically disputes the facts and says the accusations are all false.” However, a woman representing one of the victims is seeking “judicial recognition” from the justice system.

The trial comes as Depardieu faces multiple charges, including rape and sexual assault against another actress. The French actor has denied these claims as well, stating that he would never abuse a woman.

A recent investigation into Depardieu’s tax dealings has also raised questions about his character. He was initially welcomed as an honorary citizen of the Belgian village where he set up residence but lost the title after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced.

Depardieu could face up to five years in prison and a €75,000 fine if found guilty. The trial is expected to last two days with a verdict coming a few weeks later.
