German City Hamburg Attacked by Knife-Wielding Woman

A knife attack at Hamburg’s Central Station injured 18 people, four of whom are critically hurt. The suspect, a 39-year-old German woman, is in police custody and faces court on Saturday.

The victims range from 19 to 85 years old and include several minors. Seven people were badly injured, while seven others sustained lighter injuries. Police believe the attacker acted alone and have found “concrete” evidence suggesting she suffers from a mental illness.

Germany’s Friedrich Merz and Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt have expressed their condolences to the victims’ families. The attack comes as Germany faces rising rates of knife crime, with some incidents linked to migration concerns ahead of parliamentary elections.

The city’s Central Station is one of Germany’s busiest passenger railway stations, with over 550,000 travelers daily. Last year, a Syrian man was arrested for stabbing three people and wounding several others at a festival in Solingen. This incident marks the latest in a series of high-profile attacks linked to asylum seekers or migrants.
