Get Vaccinated This Holiday Season for a Healthier You

As families gather during the holiday season, Healthy Savannah is reminding everyone to prioritize their health by getting vaccinated. The “Let’s Stay (Healthy) Together” campaign aims to encourage people to get vaccinated, with no-cost options available in coastal Georgia.

These gatherings often bring together vulnerable groups, such as young children, new mothers, elderly individuals, and those with underlying health conditions. By choosing to get vaccinated, we can reduce the spread of the flu virus and create a safer environment for everyone.

National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW), observed from December 2-6, 2024, serves as a timely reminder of the importance of influenza vaccination for pregnant and breastfeeding women. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) note that pregnant women are at higher risk of severe illness from the flu, which can lead to complications for both mothers and their unborn children.

Getting vaccinated not only protects the individual but also provides crucial antibodies that can be passed to the baby during pregnancy and through breast milk, offering additional protection in the early months of life. Healthy Savannah encourages everyone to take advantage of these no-cost vaccination options to help create a healthier community this holiday season.
