The Getty Villa Museum in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, is under threat from the rapidly spreading Palisades fire. Despite initial reports suggesting the building itself was catching on fire, officials have clarified that the structure remains safe, but the surrounding grounds are at risk.
The Los Angeles Fire Department and the Getty Foundation have been tight-lipped about the situation, with only NBC News providing further details. According to NBC News, the museum’s artworks are secure, but the nearby terrain is catching fire due to strong winds, which could lead to an intense Santa Ana wind event.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has warned residents that the danger from wildfires is far from over, despite a state of emergency being declared and the National Guard mobilized. The forecast suggests that the Palisades fire could be one of the most severe in years, with potential gusts exceeding 100 mph in some regions.
Over 30,000 residents are facing evacuation orders as the fire spreads, with around 10,000 households and more than 13,000 buildings at risk from the wildfire. While officials have yet to confirm the exact damage count, numerous structures have already been lost to the flames.
As the situation continues to unfold, concerns remain about the safety of the Getty Villa Museum and the surrounding area.
