Ghana’s Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has conceded defeat in the presidential election, marking a historic comeback for opposition leader John Mahama. According to internal results, Mahama won decisively.
Bawumia accepted defeat to avoid further tension and preserve peace in the country. He congratulated Mahama, saying the people had voted for change and he respected that decision with humility.
The election comes amid widespread discontent over Ghana’s economy and environmental issues. The country is grappling with high inflation, youth unemployment, and a steep increase in living costs. Opinion polls predicted Mahama’s victory ahead of the elections.
Mahama, who has described the election as a “defining moment” for Ghana, vowed to reset the nation on a path towards good governance and accountability. He received congratulatory calls from Bawumia following his emphatic victory.
