Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 26 points and led the Milwaukee Bucks to a 97-81 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Cup title game. The Bucks connected on 17 three-pointers, with Damian Lillard adding 23 points.
The win marks the team’s 13th in their last 16 games, despite not counting towards the official record. Coach Doc Rivers credited his team’s unity and determination for the victory.
“It’s great, it’s great for our team,” Antetokounmpo said. “We’re getting better. … We know we’re leaving Vegas as a better team. I’m so proud of this group.”
The Bucks, who joined the Los Angeles Lakers as the only champions of the 2-year-old event, have won the tournament with an NBA-best 12-1 record in NBA Cup games.
For the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 21 points, but they struggled with their shooting, getting outscored 51-15 from beyond the arc. The team will look to bounce back against Orlando on Thursday and Miami on Friday.
