New York Giants co-owner John Mara has decided to retain general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll for a fourth season. The decision comes after one of the worst seasons in franchise history, with a 3-14 record. Mara acknowledged that he’s “stuck on them,” despite expressing frustration over the team’s performance.
Mara stated that the Giants’ process for making personnel decisions is better than ever but lacks confidence in their ability to improve the roster. He also admitted that there are many holes to fill, but hopes to see improvement soon.
The decision to stick with Schoen and Daboll is partly driven by ownership’s desire to avoid frequent changes to the front office and coaching staff. Mara emphasized that finding a quarterback of the future will be a top priority in the offseason.
First-year defensive coordinator Shane Bowen is also under scrutiny, with Mara expressing his desire to address the team’s poor defense. The Giants’ defense ranked 21st in points allowed last season, while their offense finished 31st in scoring.
Mara acknowledged that changes may be necessary on both sides of the ball, including a potential new play-caller for the offense and defense. Despite his reservations, Mara expressed confidence in Schoen and Daboll’s ability to lead the team forward.
