Giants’ Preseason Opener Recap: Dart Impresses in Debut

The New York Giants’ 34-25 preseason opener victory over the Buffalo Bills showed promise for the upcoming season, with quarterback Jaxson Dart making a strong impression on his NFL debut. Coach Brian Daboll praised Dart’s efficiency, effectiveness, and aggression, saying he “did what I thought he would do” in his first start.

Dart showed toughness and leadership qualities that were evident during his time at Ole Miss, and the Giants’ offense benefited from their 51 attempts in the air. The offensive line was also credited for their role in keeping Russell Wilson sack-free, despite facing a challenging “packed house” crowd.

While there were areas for improvement on defense, including dropped passes, false starts, and big plays allowed, Daboll noted that Dart has a good feel and athleticism if he must run. Cornerback Deonte Banks saw extensive action and impressed in the midst of competition with Cor’Dale Flott to play opposite Paulson Adebo.

Rookie Abdul Carter had limited snaps but will benefit from joint practices with the Giants this week. General Manager Joe Schoen praised both Carter and Dart, saying they “did a good job” and noting that Marcus Mbow is doing well on the right side of the line.

The Giants will head into their next preseason matchup with a positive outlook, despite acknowledging areas for correction. With no immediate injuries reported, the team is looking forward to building on their promising start.
