Giants’ Rookie QB Jaxson Dart Earning Playing Time

The New York Giants traded back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to select Jaxson Dart, who coach Brian Daboll believes will be the franchise’s future quarterback. Despite veteran Russell Wilson appearing entrenched as the starter, there’s a growing sense that rookie Dart is inevitable for the starting role.

Daboll praised Dart’s performance in Saturday’s win over the Jets, saying his “command of the operation” was impressive. The head coach highlighted Dart’s ability to see things well, play fast in the pocket, and make plays with his legs. While some may question the significance of these performances against reserve units, Daboll believes that Dart’s mental approach will translate.

“We want our quarterback to be hard on himself,” Daboll said. “That mindset is one I appreciate about Jaxson.” Coach Mike Kafka also commended Dart for his leadership skills and ability to get players in the right spot on offense.

While Wilson has taken first-team reps during training camp, it’s clear that Dart is being prepared to take over at some point. As Daboll said, “It’s never going to be good enough.” The question remains when Dart will finally become the Giants’ starting quarterback.
