Giants Still Pursue Rodgers as Free Agent Quarterback Options Emerge

New York Giants quarterback Jimmy Winston has seemingly confirmed the team’s interest in free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, another Pittsburgh Steelers offer is also reportedly on the table for Rodgers.

After the Winston signing, the Giants are still open to adding another QB through free agency or the draft, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The Giants currently hold the No. 3 selection in the draft and have been connected to Cam Ward, who is expected to be the first quarterback selected in the upcoming draft.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that multiple sources believe it is likely the Giants will trade up for the Tennessee Titans’ No. 1 pick and target Ward. This move would match what general manager Joe Schoen told reporters in February, stating he wants a veteran presence in the room if drafting a young quarterback.

Winston stepped in for an injured Deshaun Watson last season and played seven straight games before being sidelined by injury. Although Winston had some success, his signing suggests the Giants are looking to stabilize their quarterback position with a more established player. The team’s pursuit of Rodgers and Ward indicates they remain committed to improving their offense.

However, adding another quarterback option like Rodgers might not be necessary if the team can find a suitable veteran presence at No. 2 on the depth chart. Winston will likely compete with some younger players for the starting job, but his experience could make him an attractive backup.
