Girl Scouts Discontinue Two Cookie Flavors Amid Rising Inflation

Girl Scouts of the USA has announced that two popular cookie flavors, S’mores and Toast-Yay, will be discontinued after this year. The decision comes as the organization faces rising production and material costs, leading to a $1 price increase for a box of cookies from $6 to $7.

The S’mores flavor was introduced in 2017, while the Toast-Yay cookie rolled out in 2021. GSUSA didn’t provide a reason for their retirement, but it’s part of the organization’s efforts to refresh its lineup.

The price increase is largely due to inflation, which has affected the entire food industry. The Girl Scouts’ prices are set by local councils and vary from $4 to $7 per box. Specialty products, like gluten-free cookie varieties, may be priced higher.

In a separate move, the National Council voted to hike membership prices by 160% over two years, with dues increasing from $45 to $65 in 2026 and $85 in 2027. Despite this, the organization is still facing financial challenges, projecting operating losses of $5.6 million in 2024.

Girl Scout cookie sales are a significant source of revenue for the organization, generating $38 million in 2023 from nearly 2 million members.
