Global Conference on Girls’ Education Advances Muslim Principles

Pakistan hosted a two-day global conference where delegates emphasized promoting girls’ education worldwide in Muslim communities and denouncing restrictions on female schooling as contrary to Islamic principles. More than 150 international dignitaries attended the summit, including ministers, ambassadors, and representatives from 44 Muslim countries.

Secretary-general of the Muslim World League, Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, stressed that men and women must acquire education, emphasizing that Islam allows women to receive an education. The conference aims to address concerns about restrictions on girls’ education globally.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai is scheduled to address the gathering, saying she’s excited to join Muslim leaders for a critical conference on girls’ education. She will speak about protecting rights for all girls to go to school and holding the Taliban accountable for their crimes against Afghan women and girls.

The conference culminates in a formal signing of the Islamabad Declaration, committing Muslim nations to empowering girls through education to foster inclusive and sustainable educational reforms. The Pakistani Prime Minister announced that the declaration will be signed before the United Nations, aiming to unite the global Muslim community in its support for girls’ education.
