Global Growth Slows Amid US Trade Policy Uncertainty

The world’s finance ministers are concerned about rapidly deteriorating global growth prospects due to unpredictable economic policies in the United States. At this week’s World Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings, officials expressed alarm over the impact of America’s trade policies, including a proposed 10% tariff on all US trading partners and high duties on Chinese imports.

The IMF’s economists warn that uncertainties have increased significantly, making it challenging to predict future growth prospects. In response, they’ve abandoned traditional forecasting methods and released a “reference forecast” instead, indicating that their actual projections may be incorrect by the time they’re published.
