Global HMPV Cases Reported as Winter Season Approaches

Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a respiratory disease similar to common colds and flu, has been reported sporadically worldwide, with no confirmed cases in India’s Union Territory. The virus typically surfaces during winter months, presenting symptoms like the common cold or flu.

According to authorities, HMPV spreads through droplets from coughing or sneezing, close contact, and touching contaminated surfaces. While there is no need for panic, experts advise against crowded places and emphasize the importance of hand hygiene, staying hydrated, and getting medical attention if symptoms persist.

Precautions include covering your nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing, maintaining a safe distance from others if symptomatic, and avoiding close contact with individuals showing symptoms. The public is also urged to refrain from self-medication, not reuse tissues, and practice good hygiene.

As the winter season approaches, health authorities encourage everyone to remain vigilant and follow these precautions to safeguard themselves and their families.
