Global IT Distributor Ingram Micro Hit with 14-Hour Blackout

Global tech distributor Ingram Micro has experienced a massive 14-hour outage, affecting its websites and client service portals across the globe. The company attributed the issue to “technical difficulties” but failed to provide any further information or explanation.

The outage began around 2000 UTC yesterday and impacted many of Ingram Micro’s local websites, displaying a maintenance splash page with contact details for sales and customer service teams. Managed service providers reported issues in managing their customers’ services and placing orders for critical software backup licenses and hardware.

Ingram Micro’s partner portal is also reportedly unavailable, affecting the management of Microsoft 365 licenses, Dropbox licenses, and hardware purchases. Some employees were allegedly sent home from Ingram’s service center in Bulgaria due to a total internal system shutdown.

Customers have taken to social media to express their frustration with the lack of communication from Ingram Micro. While some speculate that the outage may be related to malicious activity, others point to the company’s recent updates to its AI and mobile app as possible explanations.

The outage has caused disruptions in the IT industry, affecting customers and partners worldwide. This is a developing story, and The Register will provide updates when more information becomes available.
