Global Retail Investors Trade Record $6.6 Trillion Worth of Stocks

Retail investors worldwide traded a record $6.6 trillion worth of stocks during the first half of 2025, driven by uncertainty and volatility in global markets. Tariffs, ongoing wars, and political tensions contributed to this massive trading volume.

According to data from Nasdaq, individual retail investors bought $3.4 trillion worth of stocks, while selling $3.2 trillion, resulting in a total traded value of $6.6 trillion. The most popular stocks among these buyers and sellers were Nvidia, Tesla, and Palantir.

The buying frenzy occurred mainly in April and May, after US President Donald Trump announced tariffs that sparked fears of a global trade war and economic recession. However, with the administration’s recent trade deals and backing down on tariff threats, concerns have subsided, leading to increased bullish sentiment among investors.

Analysts remain optimistic about Nvidia’s stock, with 40 Wall Street analysts assigning a Strong Buy rating, implying an average price target of $175.69, representing a 10.26% upside from current levels.
