GM Breaks World Record with 2026 Silverado EV Max Range Truck

General Motors has achieved a significant milestone in electric vehicle technology by breaking the world record for an electric truck’s range. A 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Max Range Work Truck, which is EPA-estimated to have up to 4931 miles on a full charge, recently completed a range test that pushed its limits beyond expectations.

The team of engineers behind the record-breaking drive spent weeks perfecting their approach, adjusting various driver habits and small settings within the truck’s acceptable limits. By doing so, they were able to optimize the truck’s efficiency and maximize battery range.

According to Kurt Kelty, Vice President of Battery, Propulsion, and Sustainability, “Getting this kind of range on a full charge doesn’t happen by accident.” The team’s achievement is a testament to their dedication to innovation and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with electric vehicles.

During the test, the engineers drove the truck at an average speed of 20-25 mph on public roads in southeastern Michigan. They made intentional adjustments to minimize drag, reduce rolling resistance, and optimize wheel alignment. These tweaks allowed them to extract every last bit of energy from the battery, ultimately achieving a record-breaking distance of 1,059.2 miles.

The Silverado EV’s impressive range is a result of years of research and development at GM. According to Jon Doremus, Propulsion Calibration Engineering Manager, “If we drove it downhill the whole time, sure, we’d get insane mileage. But that’s not what this was about. We wanted this to be real, on public roads.”

This achievement sets a new standard for electric trucks and highlights GM’s commitment to innovation in the EV space. The company plans to continue pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology, with the ultimate goal of creating vehicles that are both efficient and practical for everyday use.

The record-breaking drive will also serve as valuable data for future improvements, helping engineers fine-tune their designs and optimize performance. As Kurt Kelty noted, “Every mile taught us something, and those lessons will help shape how GM continues to improve and innovate in electric vehicles.”
