The PlayStation is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the God of War series with some exciting new content. However, fans of classic entries in the series will be disappointed to know that there’s no remaster announced yet.
A free update called the Dark Odyssey Collection will be released on March 20 for God of War Ragnarok on PS5, PS4, and PC. The update includes a new black and gold theme inspired by the working name of the original game, as well as fresh looks for Kratos, Atreus, and Freya. New weapon appearances and attachments are also included.
Additionally, PlayStation has released a range of fan kits with digital goodies, an art show in LA, new merch like art books, vinyl soundtracks, t-shirts, and a 67-inch Jörmungandr plush. However, the lack of remasters for classic games remains a major letdown.
Rumors about a “Greek Saga” collection have persisted, but no official word has been confirmed yet. The original PS2 games are already well over a decade old and unplayable on modern consoles. Santa Monica Studio has downplayed expectations for new announcements at its celebratory panel.
Despite this, fans will be able to get their hands on the new skins and merchandise when the update is released. However, it’s clear that the series’ 20th anniversary celebration is more focused on new content rather than revisiting classic games.
