The Godley school district has announced that it will close its doors for three days from January 29 to January 31 due to a widespread flu outbreak among students and staff. The decision was made after a significant increase in student absences, with over 650 students absent on January 28, and only around 70-80% of students present at campuses.
The district also reported more than 60 staff and teacher absences. This move is part of the ongoing efforts to mitigate the spread of flu across Texas. According to recent state data, emergency room visits for flu are up 33% compared to the previous week, and hospitalizations are up 17%. The state health department has also reported nine influenza outbreaks across schools and other institutions as of January 18.
The district will reopen on Monday, February 3, pending further updates.
