‘Golden Bachelor’ Gerry Turner Opens Up About Rare Blood Cancer Diagnosis

Reality TV star Gerry Turner has revealed his shocking diagnosis with Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia (WM), a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that affects the bone marrow. The 72-year-old, who appeared on “The Golden Bachelor” and filed for divorce from his wife Theresa Nist in January this year, shared his experience with People magazine.

Turner’s diagnosis was preceded by a shoulder injury three years ago, which delayed his visit to an orthopedic surgeon. After being referred to an oncologist, he discovered he had unusual blood markers indicating a blood disorder before the official diagnosis of WM.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) describes WM as a slow-growing cancer that can lead to lower red and white blood cell counts, causing fatigue, weakness, and increased risk of infections. Common symptoms include anemia, loss of appetite, fever, weight loss, and neuropathy.

Despite having no cure for the disease, Turner is focusing on enjoying life and making the most of his time. “I’m going to pack as much fun as I possibly can into my life,” he said. The reality TV star plans to prioritize family, friends, and experiences, rather than regrets about his condition.
