Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner has opened up about his bone marrow cancer diagnosis, which significantly impacted his decision to get a divorce from Theresa Nist. In an interview with People magazine, Turner revealed he was diagnosed with Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia in March and has been dealing with the emotional aftermath.
The reality TV star said that explaining his health to Nist after the diagnosis was challenging but brief. He had initially believed that continuing their lifestyle searches for a home together would be essential to their relationship, but it ultimately became less of a priority due to his illness.
Nist clarified that her decision to end the marriage was not influenced by Turner’s cancer diagnosis, but rather their inability to agree on a home in South Carolina. The couple had considered multiple locations but couldn’t find common ground.
Turner acknowledged the rumors surrounding their split and emphasized that the timing of their divorce wasn’t a rush. He attributed his decisions to his new perspective on life after being diagnosed with a cancer type he might outlive, inspired by Tim McGraw’s song “Live Like You’re Dying.”
The couple wishes each other well, with Turner expressing his love for Nist and acknowledging that she still holds a special place in his heart.
