Golden Globes Shifts to Non-Paid Voters Amid Bias Concerns

The Golden Globes is abandoning its long-standing practice of paying voting members, a move aimed at addressing perceived bias in the voting process. Effective immediately, approximately 50 paid voters will no longer receive annual salaries of $75,000. Instead, they’ll be offered a severance of $102,500 and the chance to stay on as Globe’s voters for the next telecast in January 2026 without payment. The change is part of the Globes’ corporate owner’s efforts to professionalize the event and add accountability. NBCUniversal, which airs the Golden Globes, has historically not paid its own award voters, citing it’s an honor to participate.
