The 2024 Tour Championship is underway at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, with 30 golfers competing for a share of the $40 million prize purse. Unlike last year’s event, where Scottie Scheffler started two strokes ahead of the field and went on to win his first FedEx Cup title, this year’s competition has leveled the playing field.
Golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Åberg, and Cameron Young are among those with a chance to win the FedEx Cup, which is being awarded to the player who accumulates the most points over the PGA Tour season. The tournament marks a clean slate for all participants, allowing them to make a late push for the title.
Scheffler, who has won half of his past five starts, including last week’s BMW Championship, is still considered a strong contender but faces stiff competition from other top golfers like McIlroy and Åberg. Other notable players in the field include Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, and Shane Lowry.
The event will be played on Thursday, with all 30 golfers starting at even par. The player who accumulates the most points over the course of the tournament will win the FedEx Cup title and a significant share of the prize purse.
