Google Alerts You to Scam Calls on Pixel Watch 2 and 3

Google’s latest update for its Pixel Watch 2 and 3 smartwatches now includes real-time scam detection, alerting users to potential scam calls without needing to take out their phone. The feature leverages Gemini Nano with Multimodality to detect suspicious patterns commonly used by scammers.

When a scam call is detected, the watch will vibrate, make noise, and display an “Likely scam” warning on the screen. However, direct LTE calls are not covered as the processing needs to happen on the phone.

The Scam Detection feature is rolling out in the US for calls made in English only and can be enabled through the Pixel 9’s Phone app settings. Users will hear an audible beep at the start of the call and every few minutes if they have scam detection turned on.

If a scam is detected, the watch will alert users with notifications, sound, and vibration. They can dismiss the notification or end the call using their watch. This feature is designed to protect users from potential scams and provide an added layer of security.
