Google has confirmed the release of Android 16, dubbed “Advanced Protection Mode,” which aims to narrow the security gap with iPhones by restricting sideloading and other safeguards. The new update is rolling out first to supported Pixel devices and will be available on more phone brands later this year.
Android 16 brings significant security features, including advanced protection from online attacks, harmful apps, and scam calls. Users can now activate “strongest mobile device protection” with a single click, providing greater peace of mind against sophisticated attacks.
Google says the early release of Android 16 is a significant change in software update cycles, targeting an ambitious summer 2025 stable release timeline for Samsung devices. However, users are advised to enable Advanced Protection Mode regardless, as it stops inadvertent activity and compromises data security.
The rollout comes after One UI 7 delays, but the expedited One UI 8 beta has landed more favorably. The stable rollout schedule is crucial for users of Galaxy S22 series and above, who will be eager to see upgrades beyond their devices’ current software versions.
