Google Announces Job Cuts Across Several Teams

Google has made significant job cuts across several teams, including Cloud, ads, and Trust & Safety. The company has been making small cuts over the past few months, but this latest round of layoffs is significantly larger than previous cuts. According to an internal crowdsourced document, fewer than 200 roles were affected across these teams.

The job cuts are part of Google’s efforts to operate more efficiently and ensure long-term success. The company intends to invest in its biggest priorities and significant opportunities ahead. However, some teams have been hit harder than others, with specific numbers for certain groups unknown.

Among the affected teams are those within Google Cloud’s unit, including Threat Intelligence Group, Scaled Customer Engineering, and Go-To-Market groups. In contrast, the company intends to grow its Trust & Safety team despite recent eliminations. The job cuts come as more tech companies make smaller reductions in layoffs, following sweeping cuts a few years ago.

Google has circulated an internal document tracking company-wide job cuts, which was reviewed by Business Insider. This trend is not unique to Google, with other tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft making recurring smaller reductions in recent months.
