Google Brings Gemini AI to Chrome for Mac and Windows

Google is launching its Gemini AI assistant on Chrome for Mac and Windows. The initial version allows users to ask questions about a webpage, while future versions will be able to navigate the web and perform actions on their behalf.

To access Gemini, users can press Alt + G + Ctrl + G or find it in the top-right corner of the Chrome window, as well as in the Windows task bar and Mac menu bar. A small floating window allows users to ask questions about the current webpage, with options to revoke by clicking an “x” button.

Gemini is designed to understand text and images on a webpage and recall past information, such as product comparisons. It’s also capable of summarizing content and clarifying what users are reading.

The feature will be available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in Chrome starting Wednesday, with testing available in the Beta, Dev, and Canary channels. However, it won’t be coming to Chromebooks.

Future plans include Gemini Live being able to navigate websites on behalf of users, such as finding specific sections. The team is also working on features like filling out forms, organizing tabs, and recalling pages across multiple open tabs.

Gemini was developed by the Chrome team, with Project Mariner from Google DeepMind providing research and insights that will be incorporated into future updates.
