Google Chrome has started rolling out its native PDF reader to Android users by default, eliminating the need to use third-party applications to view PDFs. The new feature was previously hidden behind experimental flags and is now available for devices running Android 12 or later.
The built-in PDF viewer supports basic markup tools like pens, highlighters, and an eraser, but does not currently allow digital signing of documents. When a user attempts to open a PDF in Chrome, the browser will now simply display it without prompting them to choose a third-party application.
However, some users may want to use separate software for editing or digitally signing PDFs. To achieve this, they can save a copy of the native-generated PDF and open it with another app. The new feature is rolling out for Chrome stable version 135.0.7049.101 on Android devices.
