Google Ditches Android Instant Apps Due to Low Usage

Google has confirmed it will shut down Android Instant Apps later this year, citing “low” usage as the reason. The feature, introduced in 2017, allowed users to try apps and demo games without installation.

Instant Apps were meant to make navigation easier for users and provide developers with new ways to find audiences. However, Google has decided to end support due to low engagement.

The decision comes after developer Leon Omelan spotted a warning about the change in Android Studio. A spokesperson, Nia Carter, confirmed the move, stating that Instant Apps’ low usage led to developers opting for alternative tools like AI-powered app highlights and simultaneous installs.

As a result, Google plans to remove support for Instant Apps by December 2025, effectively marking its end-of-life. This decision allows Google to invest in working tools and encourage users to download full apps for deeper engagement.
