Google Ditches Globe Icon on Single-Language Devices in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3

Google is rolling out Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3 to Pixel devices today, and the most noticeable change for users is the removal of the globe icon in the bottom-right corner when using a single language or keyboard setting. The new update addresses the frustration experienced by users with Gboard on a single device, who accidentally pressed the globe button and accessed unwanted features.

Prior to QPR1, Google introduced the globe icon in this position, allowing users to access available languages and Google Voice Typing. However, for those using Gboard with just one language, the globe became a persistent annoyance. The company has now opted to remove it by default, adopting a better behavior that aligns with user needs.

The globe icon remains visible if you have multiple languages set in Gboard, but tapping on it will switch to the desired language immediately, and long-pressing opens the menu. With Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3 now available, users can expect further updates as part of the next Pixel (Feature) Drop in March, including a final QPR1 patch in February.
