Google Ditches Google Assistant for AI-Powered Gemini

Google is retiring its Google Assistant, citing user demand for a more personalized companion to help users get more done. The company has been promoting its new AI-powered Gemini assistant since last year and reports positive feedback from millions of users.

To upgrade to the new Gemini experience, Android device owners will be automatically migrated from Google Assistant in the coming months. However, later this year, Google Assistant will no longer be available for download or accessible on most mobile devices.

The company will also expand Gemini-powered experiences to tablets, cars, watches, and home devices. Devices with minimum requirements of 2 GB RAM and Android 10 or higher will continue to have access to Google Assistant.

Google’s decision follows user feedback that they want a more advanced AI assistant. The Gemini app has already received positive updates and improvements since its introduction last year, making the transition to Gemini smoother for users.
