Google Drops New Updates for Android Phones and Pixel Devices

Google has announced new features for its Android phones and Pixel devices, including enhanced video captions, a Gemini-powered update to the Lookout app, and a Spotify extension for Gemini.

Pixel phone owners will also receive additional updates, such as deeper integration of the Pixel Screenshots app for Pixel 9 phones. The updated system will display Expressive Captions, which add descriptive phrases to non-spoken moments in dialogue.

Another update targets accessibility, bringing Google’s Gemini 1.5 model to the Image Q&A portion of the Lookout app to provide better descriptions of photos taken or opened with the app.

The updates also bring more extensions to Gemini Assistant, including a Spotify extension that allows playing music from Spotify through Gemini. This is one step towards feature parity between Gemini and the standard Google Assistant.

Additionally, other features are included in the update, such as creating stickers with Emoji Kitchen inside Gboard and sharing photos with QR codes in Quick Share. Compatibility varies for these features, so users can check Google’s support website to see what’s available on their device.

The Pixel 9 series also receives new features, including a call screening feature that provides contextual reply suggestions. The Screenshots app gets an update as well, allowing users to save searches and save tickets or credit cards in Google Wallet.
