Google Fi Subscribers Can Finally Enable RCS on iOS 18.4

Google Fi subscribers can now enable Rich Communication Services (RCS) on their iPhones with the launch of iOS 18.4. This feature, touted by Google as offering “high-res photo and video sharing, typing indicators, and read receipts” for iOS-Android conversations.

To activate RCS on your iPhone, head to Settings > Apps > Messages and toggle on the RCS Messaging option. The activation process may take a moment, but users won’t incur any additional charges if they have an unlimited data plan.

Google notes that this feature is currently only available to those on the Google Fi Flexible plan, which is priced per GB of data. Users on Simply Unlimited or Unlimited Plus plans may still incur charges for RCS messaging. However, all plans offer unlimited calling and texting.

It’s worth noting that iOS 18.4 marks a significant milestone in RCS support for major US carriers, with other providers set to follow suit as point releases roll out. Google has been eagerly awaiting Apple’s addition of this feature.
