Google Gemini Gets Material 3 Updates and New Features

Google is revamping its Gemini apps to incorporate the new Material 3 Expressive design language. This change has already been reflected in the app’s icon, which now features a colorful, rainbow-inspired design.

Additionally, Gemini Live will receive a darker environment and more dynamic animations. In a recent beta update (version 16.28.59.sa.arm64), a new animation was discovered that replaces the current departure from Gemini at the bottom of the display screen. The updated animation features the assistant jumping out into the surroundings.

While it’s unclear if this layout will be adopted, Gemini Live is set to undergo changes, including a modern and darker environment. Furthermore, Gemini Deep Think, introduced at Google I/O 2025, has been tested on the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) with impressive results. The tool managed 5 out of 6 challenging problems, outperforming its predecessor, DeepMind’s 4 tasks in 2024.

This update signals a major shift towards Material 3 Expressive design language for Android phones and reflects Google’s efforts to enhance the user experience across various services.
