Google has updated its Home app to bring temperature scheduling support to older Nest thermostats, finally filling a significant gap in functionality. Owners of the 3rd Gen Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E can now manually set schedules for their devices, allowing them to optimize energy efficiency and comfort.
Existing schedules from the Nest app will be transferred to the Home app, enabling users to add, remove, or change temperature events as needed. Additionally, users can set sensor and fan schedules to tailor their thermostat’s performance to their home’s specific needs.
The update also includes visual enhancements, such as more vibrant colors and descriptions in the Google Home app, making it easier to track the thermostat’s heating and cooling state. Furthermore, a refreshed energy dashboard provides detailed insights into heating and cooling usage, including separate totals, stage breakdowns, and year-over-year comparisons.
However, users with older Nest Learning Thermostat devices (1st and 2nd Gen) will not receive this update, as those devices will be discontinued in the near future.
