Google Home Extension for Gemini Rolls Out Widely on Android Devices

Google has begun rolling out its new Google Home extension for Gemini widely on Android devices. The extension offers a more conversational approach to controlling smart home devices, allowing users to issue commands in a natural and abstract way.

The primary benefit of using the Google Home extension for Gemini is its ability to understand voice commands more intuitively than traditional alternatives like Google Assistant. With Gemini, users can command their smart home tech with phrases such as “Set the dining room for a romantic date night” or “Help me clean up the kitchen.”

However, it’s worth noting that security measures prevent the extension from controlling certain devices, including gates, cameras, locks, doors, and garage doors. Most other smart home devices, including lights, outlets, switches, air conditioning units, thermostats, heaters, fans, curtains, blinds, TVs, speakers, washers, coffee makers, vacuums, and more are supported.

The extension is currently limited to Android users enrolled in the Google Home Public Preview program. iOS support is not available “for now.” To check if you have access to the extension, head to the Gemini app on your Android device, tap on your profile icon, and look for the Google Home extension in the Extensions section.
