Google Home Gains Gemini Support for Smarter Smart Home Control

Google Home has finally begun supporting the Gemini assistant, allowing users to interact with their smart home devices more naturally. The integration is currently available in the Google Home Public Preview program and will soon be rolled out to all users.

Prior to this update, users attempting to use their Gemini account for smart home functions would have been redirected to the standard Google Assistant. This limited solution has been replaced by a more seamless experience that leverages Gemini’s capabilities for lighting, climate control, window coverings, TVs, speakers, and other devices.

However, it’s worth noting that this feature is only available on Android devices and in English. Users with Apple devices are currently excluded from controlling their smart thermostats, as the integration does not extend to these platforms.

A new WhatsApp Gemini extension has also been added, enabling users to make calls and send messages. Furthermore, Google has updated its AI with Gemini Extensions for Messages and the Phone app, creating a more comprehensive integration experience.

To try out the Gemini support on Google Home, users must join the Public Preview program, which offers a straightforward sign-up process with detailed instructions. With this update, users can now enjoy a more intuitive smart home experience using their Gemini account.
