Google Home Tests AI-Powered Automation Tool “Help Me Create”

Google is testing a new feature in its Android app called “Help me create” which allows users to generate custom automations for their smart homes. This tool is similar to the script editor’s Help me script, but with a more user-friendly interface.

To use this feature, users can input phrases like “Turn on all lights at sunset” or “Save energy while I’m away”, and Google will create an automation based on those inputs. The automation consists of three parts: starters, conditions, and actions. Users can have multiple of each in an automation, and the tool also provides two options for when to start the automation: Any or All.

To test this feature, users need to opt-in to the Public Preview and enable the “Experimental AI features” toggle. They can then access the Help me create feature by going to the Automations tab, adding a new automation, and selecting Help me create.

Google recommends specific prompts for this feature, including phrases like “Turn off the lights at 11 p.m. every night” or “Set a meditation time reminder”. However, users should note that some devices and features may not be supported yet, and this tool is still in testing (US English) and not widely available.

In other news, Google has also released updates for its Nest Hub Max F22, with support for Nest Cam-Home transfer. The company has also expanded Google Home support to the Nest Cam IQ and Hub Max camera. Additionally, the Google Home app redesigns media controls and adds ‘Member access’, while the Google Home Gemini Extension is rolling out more widely.
